Sundargarh, also known as Sundargarh District, is a district located in the state of Odisha in eastern India. It is the second-largest district in Odisha and is known for its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and industrial development. The district headquarters of Sundargarh is the town of Sundargarh, which is well-connected by road and rail networks. Other major towns in the district include Rourkela, Biramitrapur, and Rajgangpur. Rourkela, an industrial city, is the largest urban center in the district and is known for its steel plant, educational institutions, and cultural events.

Geography:

Sundargarh is a district located in the western part of the Indian state of Odisha. It is situated in the Chota Nagpur Plateau region and is known for its diverse geography and natural resources.

Sundargarh district is located in the northwestern part of Odisha, bordering the states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. It lies between the latitudes 21°36’N and 22°32’N and longitudes 83°32’E and 85°22’E.

Several rivers flow through Sundargarh district, including the Ib, Brahmani, Koel, Sankha, and Sondur. These rivers not only provide water for irrigation but also contribute to the district’s overall ecosystem.

Sundargarh is rich in mineral resources and is known for its vast reserves of iron ore, limestone, coal, and manganese. The presence of these minerals has led to the establishment of mining and industrial activities in the district.

Sundargarh experiences a tropical climate, with hot summers and cool winters. The monsoon season, which lasts from June to September, brings significant rainfall to the region. The average annual rainfall in the district is around 1,500-1,800 mm.
