Bargarh is a district located in the state of Odisha, India. It is situated in the western part of the state and is known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance. It is approximately 327 kilometers away from the state capital, Bhubaneswar. The district is also known for its handloom industry, producing the famous Sambalpuri sarees and textiles. Geographical Overview

Bargarh is located in western Odisha, close to the border of the neighboring state of Chhattisgarh. It is positioned at 21.33°N 83.62°E with an average elevation of 171 meters (561 feet). The district covers an area of approximately 5832 square kilometers, making it one of the mid-sized districts in Odisha. The landscape of Bargarh is characterized by a mix of plains and hilly terrain, offering a diverse geography.

It borders Mahasamund and Raigarh districts of Chhattisgarh on the northwest, Jharsuguda district to the north, Sambalpur district to the east, Subarnapur and Balangir districts to the south, and Nuapada district to the west. The Bargarh district lies in the Plain with Eastern Ghats running close to the town. Bargarh district has a diverse topography. The landscape comprises mainly plains, plateaus, and hills. The terrain is relatively undulating with numerous small hills and valleys.

The district is traversed by several rivers and streams. The major rivers flowing through Bargarh include Mahanadi, Jira, Jeera, Ong, and Tel. These rivers provide irrigation facilities to the agricultural lands and contribute to the overall water resources of the district.

Bargarh experiences a tropical climate. Summers (March to June) are hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 30°C to 45°C (86°F to 113°F). The monsoon season (July to September) brings heavy rainfall, which is essential for agriculture. Winters (December to February) are relatively mild, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F).

Bargarh District is primarily an agricultural region, and the economy revolves around farming activities. The fertile plains and availability of water from the Mahanadi River and its tributaries support the cultivation of various crops such as paddy, wheat, maize, pulses, and oilseeds.
