Nayagarh district is located in the state of Odisha, India. It is situated in the eastern part of Odisha. It is one of the 30 districts of Odisha state in the eastern part of India. It was created on 1st April 1993 when the erstwhile Puri District was split into three distinct districts: Khordha, Nayagarh, and Puri.

Geography:
- Location: Nayagarh district is bordered by the districts of Cuttack to the east, Khordha to the southeast, Kandhamal to the south, Ganjam to the southwest, and Boudh to the west and lies between the 20° 15′ N and 20° 44′ N latitudes and 84° 26′ E and 85° 30′ E longitudes. It is situated in the central part of Odisha.
- Topography: The district has a varied topography, consisting of hills, plateaus, and fertile plains. The Eastern Ghats mountain range runs through the southern part of the district, while the northern region is relatively flat and marked by agricultural plains.
- Rivers: Several rivers flow through Nayagarh district, including the Mahanadi, Kusumi, Turi, and Genguti. The Mahanadi River forms a part of the district’s eastern border with Cuttack district. These rivers provide water for irrigation and support the local agriculture.
- Forests: Nayagarh district has significant forest cover, particularly in the hilly areas of the Eastern Ghats. The forests are primarily tropical deciduous, with a variety of flora and fauna. They are home to wildlife species like elephants, leopards, deer, and various species of birds.
- Climate: The district experiences a tropical monsoon climate. Summers are hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 30°C to 40°C (86°F to 104°F). The monsoon season lasts from June to September, bringing heavy rainfall. Winters are relatively mild, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F).
